Name: David J. Languirand
Date of Sighting (and time if known): 9/20/09 about 1:00AM
Location of Sighting: Dracut, Massachusetts USA
Shape(s) of UFO(s) (If Known): Round bright orangy yellow light aimed at the ground created a cone like swath of illumination.
Size(s) of UFO(s) (If Known): Didn’t appear too large but it went directly over us so difficult to figure if it had more mass than the round light.
Color(s) of UFO(s) (If Known): Light seemed to have a slight yellow tint but that may be due to the greenery of the lawn and landscape it illuminated.
Number of UFO(s) (If Known): Didn’t see more than 1
Distance of UFO(s) in sky (If Known): Okay, this is tough to say but let me tell you this, it lit the landscape, so how high or low would it have to be to do that? Have you ever seen how a lightning flash illuminates the landscape? It wasn’t a flash but a steady progressing illumination. The negative of what we saw would be the shadow of a cloud accross a field. It moved swiftly and silently (That’s what’s oddest about the whole thing. It was moving so fast with no sound of propulsion. I can hear the beating of a duck’s wings but this made no noise at all.)It was moving North to South from Tyngsboro to Lowell along Long Pond’s Western shore. It passed directly over us as my wife (Marybeth), our friend (Mike), and I sat beside a fire drinking beers and discussing the current economic mess (AKA solving all the world’s problems). I live on the Tyngsboro (Western Shore) side of Long Pond but in Dracut.
Direction of Travel for UFO(s) (If Known): North to South
Other Known Object(s) (For possible reference, or contrast): Simultaneously, as we looked up to track the light source, a shooting star made a dash from south west to north east behind the UFO. This was good because at first I suspected we had witnessed a low flying shooting star but this light source had no tail trail like the tracer a shooting star has. It was easy to dismiss the shooting star theory. Heck if this were a shooting star I believe we would have been scorched by it. Afterall, it lit the ground we were sitting on.
Further Description of Sighting: It happened quite unexpectedly and was so quiet. We were fortunate in that there was no moon so the effect of the illumination was more dramatic than a moonlit night. Now, I read the NASA thing about the rocket they launched from Virginia to study high altitude clouds but I’m skeptical that this phenonema has anything to do with NASA’s rocket. Most of the sightings NASA claims to be rocket related were much earlier like 8PM on Saturday. We were close to 1AM on Sunday. I’m 54 years old and have never witnessed anything similar to this in my life. It was different and unexplainable to us.
