Further Description of Sighting: My wife and I were camping on East Lake in the Newberry Caldera, near Bend. As it got dark we decided to lay on the beach and identify constellations. We had been there maybe half an hour when we both noticed an extremely bright flash in the sky above us. I thought I had witnessed a supernova. But then it flashed again slightly further south. After watching for awhile it seemed there were two objects, not visible to us, that would emit a bright white flash irregularly every 5 to 10 seconds. Once several flashes appeared close together and jerked slightly, making a tiny bright streak. I’ve seen plenty of falling stars, and satellites and airplanes. It was none of those. We had already seen a couple falling stars. The flashes were completely different. There were plenty of people in the campground that night and I heard one other person further down the beach talking about the flashes too. The whole thing only lasted about 30 seconds, maybe less. I expected to be able to get online and enter the date and find some explanation. But so far I haven’t even found a report of anyone else seeing it.
