North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA; August, 2009

Name: Chris

Date: August, 2009

Location: North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Message: I was in North Myrtle Beach the first week of August 2009 staying at the Cherry Tree Inn on North Ocean BLVD. Around 10:30 I spotted a yellowish/orange light, it then faded and just above and to the right it reappeared. This trend continued in a circular pattern when it disappeared. A minute later another single yellowish/orange light just to the left of the other lights. I first thought it was a flare. Glad to see that I am not crazy and these lights have been spotted by others.

I saw these also on two different nights.  I was staying in Cherry Grove the same week.  After the last one I saw, there was a boat in the general area with a bright light on it as if it was a search boat.  Still trying to find out what was.  Did not see anything on the news about them while I was there.

Thursday night 8/6 around 9:00 or so, my daughter and I walked the beach just south of the Apache Pier. We saw what we assumed was an airplane coming up from the southeast ocean fairly low on the horizon it got closer, moving north for a while, then turned and flew south, appearing to proceed west over the island, looking like it was landing. Odd behavior but nothing about it suggested it was anything other than an airplane, and I’m sure that’s what it was.  A few minutes later, my daughter said, “hey what are those lights?” and pointed up high to the right of the moon. There were three gold lights in a triangle formation (might have had a red tint to them at the bottoms — I thought I saw a reddish hue, my daughter did not). They hung in the air — no associated noise — then winked out in sequence. We never saw them fly into position or fly away. The three lights turned on and then they turned off. Breathtaking and bizarre. I’ve never remotely seen anything like it. If they were military jets, they were maneuvering in a 3-point formation in the dark, flashing their lights in sequence to confirm position. What’s weird about that theory is that there was no noise and they didn’t seem to be moving. I’ve seen video on the ‘net and on TV where unexplained lights seemed very glowy and amorphous. These looked tight and well-defined. Almost like stars. (But way too bright/close to be stars. Besides, stars don’t appear and disappear in a matter of seconds.)  Didn’t stick around to see if any airplanes would come back. Hope people will continue to post reports/theorize here.

Sorry, been watching LOST too much. No “island” obviously. I meant “beach.” The plane seemed to come inland at the southern end of the beach.

On 9/15/09 my family and I were sitting on our oceanfront condo in North Myrtle Beach when we suddenly saw a strange orange light in the sky. It would not have seemed unusual but then the light disappeared and then three more lights reappeared in sequence only to dissappear again. This happened a couple of times and then just stopped. It was very strange. I notice there have been other similar cases in this area. Is there any ideas?

  5. my family and i were staying at the asworth resort the first week of august. thursday the 6th i saw the triangle lights to the right of the moon, yellow/orange, went out one at a time. 5-10 minutes later we saw 4 of the same color lights out farther over the water in a long rectangular pattern, and they went out sequentially. 15 minutes after that, right next to the moon, 2 white lights that seemed connected appeared and spun about 90 degrees and shot over the top of our balcony in a matter of seconds. no sound. that day and the next we continued to see blackhawk helicopters ( a pair ) flying up and down the beach. didn’t think anything of it, i heard there was an airforce base near by. but, you could hear them flying. the lights didnt move like anything we have ever seen. what ever they were, it was not normal. when i read you story, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. peace
